All students will receive an initial consultation during their first lesson to assess current abilities and discuss future goals. The curriculum is customized to each student, however, lessons are always designed to promote strong technique, note-reading, ear training and music theory within a variety of musical styles.
A consistent, daily practice routine is more important than the actual amount of time spent at the piano. As a general guide preschool aged students can be expected to practice for 10 minutes, 5 days a week and elementary school students should be spending 20-30 minutes, 5 days a week. Students are taught to reach specific weekly goals rather than to watch the clock. Quality is valued over quantity and inspired practicing is always valued and encouraged.
Rates are $20 per 30 minute lesson. Tuition is paid one month in advance and is due at the first lesson of each month. A monthly statement will be provided detailing lesson charges, credits and amount due. Personal checks and cash are accepted, or you may use the online payment link on your statement to pay with a credit card, eCheck and bank transfer (via PayPal).
Credit for any cancelled lesson will be made as long as the teacher is notified before the lesson start time. Lessons can be cancelled by phone call, text message or e-mail. Rescheduling and/or make-up lessons will be accommodated at a mutually determined time. Any lesson cancelled by the teacher will be rescheduled or credited to the student's account. Payments are nonrefundable and all credits will be applied to future lesson charges. No shows will be charged for any missed lesson.
As we all share the same piano it is important that a student NEVER comes to a lesson if they are unwell, or if they feel they are coming down with something. Please keep in mind the beginning of a cold is the most contagious period. Also, persistent or excessive coughing, temperature, diarrhea, and vomiting are all great reasons to take advantage of the generous cancellation policy outlined above.
The cost of books and materials are not included with tuition. Wunderkeys students will be required to purchase the three accompanying lesson books. Wunderkeys books can be purchased at lesson and are $15.00 each. For beginning adults, the first year book is Adult Piano Adventures-Book 1 published by Faber & Faber which retails for $15.95. Additional materials will be discussed at lesson.
Transfer students should bring any books they were studying with their previous teacher to their first lesson.
Photos of students and video/audio recordings of students projects and performances may be posted online and used by the instructor for promotion or any other reason. Identifying information will be excluded or limited to first names only. Parents wishing to exempt their children from any published media can do so by written notification via e-mail.
